THE CLIENT
Our client is a £250m turnover global leader in the manufacture and distribution of materials for plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and industrial applications.
Headquartered in West Midlands, the business is a wholly owned subsidiary of a multi-billion dollar listed company. The business is committed to delivering high-quality products through efficient and sustainable processes and operates one of the most modern and environmentally efficient plants of its type in all of Europe.
The company has recently invested £20m in new plant machinery which will go into operation this year. As part of their ongoing development plans for the business, they are looking to recruit a new Production Director to transform and lead the manufacturing function, driving operational performance across the site.
THE ROLE: PRODUCTION DIRECTOR
The Production Director will be part of the senior leadership team and report directly into the Managing Director.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and experienced Production leader who will lead and transform the manufacturing function. They will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of production, driving efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and a proven track record in manufacturing transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive production strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements across the manufacturing function to enhance efficiency, quality, sustainability and profitability
- Lead, mentor, and develop the production team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability
- Drive operational performance across the business to increase efficiency and enhance profitability
- Build, lead and inspire a high-performing team, ensuring effective recruitment, training and development strategies are in place
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets are met or exceeded
- Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback and evaluations
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve production processes and reduce waste
- Ensure all products meet or exceed quality standards and customer specifications
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and systems
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans for the production department
- Optimise resource allocation, including workforce, materials, and equipment
- Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions
Skills and Competencies Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field (Master's degree preferred)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a comparably sized industrial engineering business
- Proven track record of successfully transforming and enhancing manufacturing functions
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies
- NEBOSH and safety qualification would be advantageous
- Comprehensive production planning expertise in a multi-process, multi-shift, 24/5 manufacturing environment
- Metal extrusion experience advantageous but not essential
