AICES Policy and Public Affairs Manager


AICES is the UK trade association for the international express sector. Our members import and export to and from the UK over 250 million international shipments each year and include, DHL, DPD, Evri, FedEx, Parcelforce and UPS.  We are looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager to join our team to play a key role in helping AICES represent our members to Government, Parliament and external stakeholders.


This is an exciting job where you can become the interface between government and industry and help ensure decision-making takes into account the practical considerations of the AICES membership and their customers which impacts more generally on UK economic growth. 


In this role you will work to understand and articulate the membership’s views on customs, logistics, and aviation issues and will keep them up to date with new developments in the regulatory landscape and with governmental and current affairs. You will utilise your interpersonal skills to form excellent relationships with the AICES membership and wider stakeholders including government officials, CBI and other trade associations. 

An important part of the role will also be to support the CEO in the running of AICES including organising parliamentary events, management of the website, LinkedIn profile and membership database.


This role is a full-time permanent position with starting salary £45,000-60,000 dependent on experience. This is a hybrid job - with approximately 1 day a week in London.


Key responsibilities

As Policy and Public Affairs Manager, you will:

·       Review government and industry reports and announcements, to provide key analysis to members and respond to consultations. Covering areas such as logistics, aviation, regulatory developments, customs and consumer issues. 

·       Produce weekly reports on key Government and parliamentary and industry developments and changes that will affect AICES members.

·       Organise events for members and external stakeholders

·       Build and maintain great relationships with all AICES members, including maintenance of membership database. 

·       Manage the AICES website, with continuous update of News and Updates, as well as making site changes and the introduction of new pages.


Essential Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

·       Good writing and presentational skills

·       Some experience of working in Parliament, Government, public affairs or public policy

·       Ability to analyse data and produce reports,

·       Familiarity with Excel, mailchimp or similar and ability to manipulate and organise data

·       Great stakeholder management skills

·       Good time management and organisational and administrative abilities

Relevant experience/knowledge:

·       Awareness of logistics/aviation/customs issues

·       Parliamentary procedures

·       Drafting consultation responses and articles

·       Event management

·       Database maintenance and ability to upload content to websites

·       Experience of working for a membership organisation

Start Dates

We are flexible on starting date but ideally November/December (but accept there could be a 3 month notice period). We will schedule an initial interview on teams as relevant CVs and cover letters come in.
