Senior Principal Designer

A leading national construction consultancy is seeking a dedicated Principal Designer to join their dynamic team in Newcastle. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a reputable firm known for delivering outstanding construction and property consultancy services across the UK.

The Principal Designer Role

As a Principal Designer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of construction projects by managing and coordinating health and safety during the pre-construction phase. You will be responsible for identifying, eliminating, and controlling foreseeable risks throughout the design process, ensuring compliance with the CDM 2015 regulations.

The successful Principal Designer will work closely with clients, designers, and contractors to provide expert advice on health and safety matters, prepare pre-construction information, and oversee the development of construction phase plans. Your role will be critical in ensuring that all parties fulfil their health and safety responsibilities effectively.

The Principal Designer

• Construction or design background: Proven experience within the construction industry, particularly in a design or architectural capacity.
• Principal Designer experience: Significant experience in the role of Principal Designer under CDM regulations, with a strong understanding of risk management in design.
• Health and Safety qualifications: NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent is essential; TechIOSH or APS accreditation would be advantageous.
• Consultancy experience: Previous experience within a construction consultancy environment, with a focus on providing Principal Designer services.
• Client-facing skills - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage client relationships effectively and lead design teams.
