Overview of Role


As the lead site reliability engineer, you will be responsible for setting standards for observability, building and maintaining tooling and automation to enhance the reliability of our platform, and working closely with product engineering teams to achieve optimal reliability outcomes. This role is crucial to ensuring our payment systems are robust, scalable, and dependable, providing our customers with seamless and secure payment experiences.


Be responsible for and deliver:


• Collaborate with product engineering teams to improve the observability of their applications.


• Create and maintain standards and ways of working that promote the reliability of PayPoint’s platform.


• Promote a culture of accountability and ownership by creating tooling and automation that allows product engineers to effectively operate their services in production.


• Provide primary on-call support for applications where appropriate.


• Work with product teams to balance new feature delivery with well-defined service level objectives (SLOs).


• Proactively monitor production systems to identify and remediate potential performance problems before they materialise.


• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement innovative solutions that provide a competitive edge.


What we would like from you….


• Software development skills in one or more high level languages, preferably C#/.NET.


• Experience in a similar role at a company with a distributed cloud architecture.


• Experience with containerisation and Kubernetes


• You know what good SRE looks like and can help us shape the outcomes for this role.


• You know what good platform engineering looks like and can help us shape the outcomes for this role.


• Experience providing on-call support for real time systems where downtime has a significant impact on customers.


• Ability to make pragmatic, risk-based decisions that balance the commercial objectives of the business with non-functional requirements of the technology platform.


• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
