Job Title: Senior Electronics Systems Engineer


About the Role:

The Senior Electronics Systems Engineer will join the Engine Systems Team within the Electronics European Division. You will be responsible for developing and implementing electrical and electronic control systems for powertrains produced in the UK. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on the integration of electronics into a wide range of heavy machinery, enabling exceptional performance and value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical support for the engine electronic system.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Participate in the selection of suitable electronic components.
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and maintain validation test plans.
  • Provide technical support on pinouts, schematic questions, and software functionality.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot any reported quality issues in electronic systems.
  • Actively contribute to system development from concept through post-production maintenance.

Must-Have Skills & Competencies:

  • Degree in Engineering with relevant post-graduation experience, or HNC/NVQ Level 4 with additional experience in electronic engine, machine, or automotive control systems.
  • Proven experience in integrating and troubleshooting electronic systems, including PWM, analogue, and communication signals.
  • Ability to develop detailed electronic technical specifications and coordinate development with other teams.
  • Hands-on experience with system verification testing and FMEA development.
  • Understanding of internal combustion engine controls.
  • Strong collaboration skills within a global team environment.

Desirable Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience with off-highway or automotive electronic control systems.
  • Knowledge of engine systems such as fuel and air systems.
  • Familiarity with Controller Area Networks (CAN) and tools like Vector CANape and CANalyzer.
  • Proficiency in oscilloscope use for development purposes.
  • Experience with requirements management tools like DOORS and Teamcenter.

Ideal Candidate Background:

  • Prior experience in diesel engine or off-highway machine system development, or similar industries (automotive, marine, military).
  • Previous roles in companies such as JLR, Nissan, Bosch, Delphi, Cummins, or Mercedes F1.
  • Experience working with development tools suppliers like dSpace, Mathworks, and Vector.

Not Required:

  • Software code development (e.g., Matlab Simulink)
  • Software validation
  • PCB-level electronic hardware development
