We are working with a law firm in Belfast who are recruiting a criminal solicitor to join their team.
The Role:
The successful candidate will deal with a busy caseload of criminal cases. The role will involve attending court and police stations when required and providing informed legal advice to the firm's clients. The day to day role will include:
- Preparing for court attendances and trials;
- Instructing and liaising legal counsel throughout the lifespan of the case;
- Advise and negotiate with clients to reach agreed outcomes;
- Conduct legal research specific to each case;
- Take detailed legal notes of meetings with clients and counsel;
- Taking statements from witnesses relevant to the claim;
- Drafting legal documents;
- Working with the wider legal team to train and mentor junior solicitors and paralegals.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified Solicitor (ideally in the range of 1 – 5 years PQE in criminal law, although the company can be flexible);
- Previous experience of dealing with criminal law and/or immigration law cases;
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task;
- Excellent communication skills and experience in building strong client relationships;
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to problem solve;
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
- Interest in mentoring junior members of staff.
