Human Resources Director

4 x days per week; 32 hours per week


Job Summary:

The HR Director will oversee the whole of the HR function internationally, from providing forward thinking HR strategies and advice through to driving talent management, development, engagement and leading the HR team to manage all of the required HR administration duties. The HR Director will be passionate, dynamic and results-driven and will ensure that high standards of HR support runs across the business, providing an efficient and effective first class HR service.


The HR Director will be part of the senior leadership team and will be able to provide and deliver innovative HR ideas, plans, and solutions in order to assist the business in achieving its business objectives. The HR Director will manage the HR budget in order to achieve HR goals and will continually drive the business forward on all aspects of people and culture.

Overall Responsibility:

Management/Function Responsibilities:

  • To manage the HR function and line manage HR team members. Responsible for onboarding, training, developing, inspiring and motivating team members.
  • To oversee all HR processes ensuring that they are efficient, effective and fit for purpose at all times.
  • Implement any required recommended HR process improvements.
  • To make sure that all HR processes are GDPR compliant.
  • Embrace appropriate change management and champion continuous improvement opportunities within the business.
  • Lead the company through the ISO process and ensure the Company is H&S compliant.
  • Manage and present at the Company’s All Hands meetings.
  • Head of committees – include charity.
  • Lead SLT minute taking, ensure they are ISO compliant, and that information is communicated through the business.
  • Create and implement an onboarding process.

HR Strategic Responsibilities/Engagement:

  • To own and steer the HR strategy, ensuring it is successful and ahead of industry standards.
  • Provide guidance and input on workforce planning, talent management and succession planning.
  • To be part of the senior leadership team and provide sound innovative HR advice, to help enhance the business.
  • To work with the design department and implement a compelling employer brand – using platforms such as LinkedIn/Glassdoor.
  • To lead company engagement initiatives including the engagement survey and applicable engagement plans – lead on strategic actions concerning engagement.
  • Develop, implement and monitor HR strategies and ensure they are aligned with the company objectives.


Staff Morale

  • Devise and implement methodologies to measure staff satisfaction, morale and effectiveness.
  • Implement strategies to improve staff satisfaction, motivation and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

HR Budget

  • To manage the HR budget efficiently, to make sure actions and plans required for the business are kept in line with the budget.
  • To use the HR budget appropriately for training and engagement requirements.


Recruitment/Induction

  • To manage the entire recruitment process including but not limited to drafting job ads, sourcing appropriate recruitment platforms and coordinating interview process.
  • To continually develop methods for direct recruiting, decreasing the cost of recruitment to the business using platforms such as ‘LinkedIn’.
  • To produce and maintain job descriptions for all roles within the company.
  • Ensure that all staff photos are updated onto the Company website.


Employment Law/Employee Relations

Keep abreast of and understand changes to both UK and EU employment legislation and law, managing changes where appropriate.

  • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations. Fostering a supportive work environment and addressing employee concerns.
  • Serve as primary support for grievances, disciplinaries, appeals, and related matters.
  • To advise and guide management on all aspects of employee relations and employment law.
  • To ensure the company is always legally compliant with employment law.
  • To manage the Employee Handbook and company policies, ensuring they are legally compliant and up to date.
  • Driving employee retention.


Training and Development

  • To lead the company’s appraisal process, making any recommended changes.
  • To devise and deliver management training programmes on all aspects of people management, linking to ISO requirements.
  • To maintain career matrix/competencies required for each level within the business.
  • To recommend strategic training requirements for all departments, working with the SLT to implement.
  • Develop training plans for high potential employees, including management development and coaching.


HR Records/Administration

  • Lead the HR team to maintain accurate and up to date HR records and employee files.
  • Lead the HR team to produce all HR correspondence including contracts of employment, changes to terms and conditions, leaver information and any other ad-hoc employee correspondence.
  • To direct team members to log and keep records of absence, sickness and holidays.


Payroll, Benefits and Salary Review

  • To liaise closely with the payroll provider to ensure the accurate delivery of the monthly payroll.
  • Lead the HR team to manage the company auto enrolment pension scheme.
  • To recommend and manage any applicable benefit scheme(s); work with appropriate 3rd party to deliver.
  • Work with the SLT team to implement annual salary review recommendations where necessary.


HR Reports and Metrics

  • Lead the HR team to manage all required HR monthly reports and ad-hoc report requests.
  • To produce and maintain useful HR metric reports/employee feedback to help guide the business on strategic HR decisions.
  • Collate and analyse industry staff salary data, ensuring the business is competitive.

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding and proven track record with demonstrated experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management and organisational development.
  • 8+ years of general HR experience
  • 5+ years of managerial HR experience
  • Experience in shaping and leading the HR strategy and function for a company with at least 70+ employees
  • Ability to lead, manage and mentor team members
  • Ability to lead on the best process to deliver on time and in budget
  • Ability to cope with shifting priorities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in shaping and delivery of training desirable
  • Experience in employee engagement desirable
  • Ability to manage the monthly payroll and benefit arrangements
  • Employment law knowledge and ability to deal with sensitive situations
