Our client, a large organisation specialising in power distribution, is seeking a Health and Safety Manager for their London office. This is an onsite role. As the organisation has regional offices there may be an opportunity to work from within one of those regional offices for part of the week.


You will drive the health and safety culture within this large organisation and you will manage occupational safety risks ensuring that the organisation has fit for purpose safety policies, procedures and manuals in a way that manages risk enabling the organisation to achieve their 'beyond zero' safety vision and lead a step change improvement in their journey from 'Good to Great' safety performance.


You will assist Senior Management Teams, colleagues, and contractors across the business to make the right choices when managing Health and Safety (H&S) risks within the business.


You will contribute to the management of all our occupational safety risks and appropriate controls in the occupational/areas, ensuring they are addressed throughout the organisation.


You will manage a team of Health & Safety Advisors. The team will also provide '3rd line of defence' advice to all departments for all occupational safety related matters.


You will be able to confidently support health and safety investigations and attend and participate on relevant health and safety committees and major investigation review panels. You will be used to monitoring legislative changes and ensuring safety related procedures are implemented. You will able to support internal audits internally and externally across the business.


You will be comfortable maintaining, developing and publishing all occupational safety related policies, procedures and manuals and you will be used to supporting the selection of tools and equipment.


You will have come from a construction or engineering background and you will be used to managing a team as well as managing upward.


Essential for this role:

  • You will have an ability to work confidently at senior management level
  • You will have operated with construction teams and you will have leadership experience in an engineering environment
  • You will have managed a team budget
  • You will have demonstrable experience in setting HSS policy for the business and providing HSS improvement activity across the business
  • You should have a relevant academic qualification in an engineering or occupational health and safety
  • You should have a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
