Position Overview:

The Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) for Carbon Trading will play a pivotal role in driving growth and expanding the company’s footprint across the UK and Scandinavia. This senior role requires a highly skilled professional who can create and execute complex sales strategies, build relationships with key stakeholders in carbon markets, and navigate evolving environmental regulations. As the Senior BDM, you will work to identify new business opportunities, cultivate relationships, and secure high-value deals within compliance and voluntary carbon markets. This position demands a consultative selling approach, combined with a deep understanding of carbon trading dynamics, to meet client needs and contribute to the company’s long-term success.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and execution of a high-level sales strategy aimed at penetrating the UK and North West Europe markets, focusing on the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
  • Establish, cultivate, and expand senior-level relationships with key stakeholders in the EU and UK-ETS compliance sectors, and organisations aiming to manage residual emissions through the Voluntary Carbon Markets, with an emphasis on strategic carbon market solutions.
  • Spearhead client acquisition and engagement efforts, using a mix of cold calling, strategic networking, and leveraging industry events to generate new business opportunities.
  • Oversee the management of long, complex sales cycles, from identifying opportunities to negotiating and closing high-value deals, with a strong focus on building long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure effective use of CRM tools, preferably Zoho, to maintain accurate records and report on pipeline activity and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams (operations, product, and marketing) to create bespoke solutions that address specific client needs and evolving market demands.
  • Stay informed about key industry trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive intelligence to position the company as a leader in carbon trading and sustainable solutions.
  • Demonstrate leadership in client engagements by using emotional intelligence, fostering trust, and positioning the company as a consultative partner in carbon trading.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of proven success in senior B2B sales within the energy or environmental markets, with a strong preference for experience in carbon advisory or related sectors.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with experience engaging with senior executives and decision-makers across diverse industries.
  • A proven leader with the ability to work autonomously, drive results, and lead high-stakes negotiations.
  • Extensive experience in developing and executing high-impact sales strategies, including managing long and complex sales cycles.
  • Proven track record of closing high-value deals and managing senior client relationships across multiple markets, especially within the compliance and voluntary carbon markets.
  • Strong proficiency in CRM systems, with experience in Zoho CRM as a distinct advantage.
  • Significant client-facing experience, with a strong history of developing and maintaining long-term business relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the company at top-tier industry conferences and events, positioning the brand as a market leader.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to actively listen, understand client challenges, and provide tailored solutions.
  • Strategic thinker with experience navigating complex regulatory environments and emerging trends in carbon markets.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary with substantial performance-based incentives
  • Flexible/Hybrid work options for work-life balance
  • Executive-level career growth and professional development opportunities
  • Access to the latest developments in carbon trading and environmental markets
  • Dynamic and innovative work culture that fosters collaboration and leadership
  • Comprehensive private healthcare package
  • Mental health and wellbeing support programmes
