ALS Coordinator

College location: John Ruskin College (Selsdon)

Salary: £36,528 Pro-rated accordingly (Subject to qualifications, skills and experience)

Hours: Full-time (37 hours) Monday Thursday; 8.30am 5pm, Friday; 8.30am - 4.30pm, Term-Time Only

We are currently seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic ALS Coordinator to deliver a high-quality service to students who require additional support to access learning. Ensuring all aspects of the student journey is fully inclusive and they receive the support they need to achieve their desired outcomes.

Working closely with the ALS Manager you will organise the day to day running of the department, ensure policies and procedures are implemented, whilst maintaining effective and efficient use of resources. You will manage complex information and play an important role in the ALS team working closely with staff across college departments, students, parents, and external agencies.

In this exciting role you will have responsibility for the planning, implementing, and reviewing support for students who have Education, Health and Care Plans, and others with identified learning, social, emotional and mental health needs. You will assist in the coordination of access arrangements for students, ensure accurate records are kept and JQC awarding body requirements are adhered to.

You will line manage and support a team of Senior Learning Support Assistants and Learning Support Assistants; implement support timetables, allocate duties and monitor performance including observations, appraisals and sickness management.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Educated to a minimum level 4 in a related area e.g. social care or teaching.
  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
  • A knowledge and understanding of issues associated with developing and providing support to students/young people with additional needs.
  • Knowledge and experience of SEND legislation, the code of Practice and EHCP's
  • Proven experience of dealing with behavioural issues and having the resilience required to deal with these challenging situations effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise professionally with internal and external organisations
