Senior Director – Engineering – Ports & Terminals – Southampton

DP World Southampton are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineering Director to join us and lead the Engineering department. This is a large, experienced team which comprises of 6 direct reports with overall responsibility for a headcount of approx. 125 engineers. How you will contribute



  • Ensure that asset performance, reliability and optimisation programs are in line with business requirements and meets all stakeholder expectations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Asset Management Strategy.
  • Develop an understanding of the operational priorities, equipment demands and maintenance priorities to ensure a seamless maintenance routine of all assets with minimal operational disruption.
  • Effective management and scheduling of maintenance activities of assets to ensure optimal compliance with maintenance schedules and statuary obligations while considering operational and safety requirements.
  • Develop, improve, and optimise management systems to optimise cost of maintaining and running equipment. Monitor the trends against agreed budgets and life cycle costs.
  • Provide timely reports about equipment performance, budgets, expenses and other areas of business.
  • Manage procurement, delivery, and commissioning of new equipment. Keep track of latest development in equipment technology and provide feedback during equipment selection and design.
  • Ensure that industrial and employee relations are well managed to enable the business to perform optimally and deliver its objectives.
  • Develop and maintain an organization structure and a professional engineering team capable of meeting short- and long-term business objectives.
  • Direct and drive performance management culture within the team ensuring that staff meet their targets which are set in line with the business and operational needs
  • Propose and manage training programs to improve the competence and efficiency of engineering team. Coach the team to improve their skills and knowledge.



What you will bring



  • Extensive experience in a senior engineering management role.
  • Experience within the Container Port sector is highly advantageous however we will also consider applications from maritime, manufacturing, and other high-risk industries.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent professional engineering qualification.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and cross functionally.
  • Track record of successfully building efficient and motivated teams delegating authority as appropriate.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence and promote change.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise strategic technical interventions for engineering function and business improvement.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem solve and make difficult decisions.
  • Understanding of business finance operations.
  • Report writing and analytical skills.
