Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Role Summary

Our client, Flexeserve, is a pioneering, employee-owned business with over 25 years of research and development in the heated displays and hot food merchandising market. Leveraging the expertise of our incredible sales network, our 100-strong team operates from both the UK and the U.S., serving customers across the globe.

They are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and developing innovative designs and technical solutions for various products, systems, or components.

Your expertise in SolidWorks CAD will be crucial in translating conceptual ideas into detailed designs and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for creating high-quality engineering designs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design Development: Utilise SolidWorks CAD software to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings based on project requirements and specifications.
• Conceptualisation and Ideation: Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and other engineering teams to brainstorm and develop innovative design concepts.
• Design Optimisation: Evaluate designs for functionality, manufacturability, and performance, and propose improvements or modifications to enhance product quality and efficiency.
• Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation necessary for prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly.
• Design Reviews: Participate in design reviews, providing insights and feedback to ensure compliance with design standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
• Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality control, and procurement, to ensure smooth and successful product development from design to production.
• Problem-solving: Analyse design issues and implement effective solutions while considering factors like cost, functionality, and manufacturability.
• Maintain an organised library of design files, drawings, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for future reference.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to SolidWorks CAD and design engineering, and apply them to enhance design processes and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Education and experience:
  • BSc/BEng (hons) in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with 2 years related industrial experience.
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) plus 3 years related industrial experience.
  • Level 4 or higher engineering apprenticeship plus 3 years Industrial experience.
• Knowledge of food equipment industry-specific regulations and standards (ETL/UL/NSF etc.)
• Knowledge of sheet metalwork, welding etc.
