Location : Hybrid with one to two days per week in AirEx’s central London office.

Position Overview


AirEx are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development and manufacturing of our advanced smart brick air ventilation systems. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the product development lifecycle, including CAD design, documentation management, testing, and design for manufacturing. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, operations, and technology, to ensure the seamless integration of our innovative products. They must be passionate about AirEx's mission to combat fuel poverty and climate change and will have a demonstrated ability to lead engineering efforts in a fast-paced, innovative environment.


Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of components (design, test, manufacture, monitor, and document)
  • Develop specifications and design mechanical systems or components accordingly
  • Enable the smooth integration of new products into production by collaborating with our manufacturing partner, documenting, inspecting, and optimising where needed
  • Contribute to visibility the product’s COGS to get further insight on production costs and prioritise value engineering opportunities
  • Explore design options and propose concepts to the team to optimise our products or propose new ideas
  • Conduct experiments methodically, analyse data, and interpret results to evaluate overall product performance, reliability and safety
  • Collaborating with our electronics designer to deliver cross functional requirements
  • Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems from production and the field
  • Estimate budget and scope of a project
  • Prepare product, engineering, and production documentation


Candidate Requirements

(NB. Please consider applying, even if you don’t meet all of the requirements described below) 

  • Proven working experience in mechanical engineering. A degree is a plus. 
  • Strong understanding and design experience with manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, metal stamping/bending, and ultrasonic welding. 
  • Able to work with your hands (basic power tools, etc) to modify prototypes, and test installations in the field 
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA), and basic mechanical engineering concepts & calculations
  • Hands-on experience with CAD such as Solidworks and Fusion 360
  • Capable of producing revision controlled engineering documentation including BOM, assembly drawings, and component drawings with appropriate tolerances and notes
  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science etc.
  • Excellent creative, problem-solving, organisational, and analytical skills
  • Experience with solving issues on a production line that utilise various manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, manual assembly, and PCB assembly is a plus
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
  • Experience with industrial design and working with customers is desirable
  • Technical writing skills
