Position: Ward Manager - Surgical Wards
Location: Horley, West Sussex
Salary: Nursing band 5a
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent 37.5 hours per week

The successful candidate will oversee the care of pre- and post-operative surgical patients across various specialties, managing both inpatient and day care wards. This role demands excellence in clinical and managerial leadership, offering appropriate support to colleagues within the department while assisting the Director of Clinical Services in the overall management of the healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities as a Ward Manager
Leadership and Management: Lead the department in achieving Spire's key performance indicators, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
Team Oversight: Provide line management and leadership for the inpatient services team, including recruitment, induction, training, performance review, personal development planning, and handling disciplinary and grievance matters. Maintain up-to-date staff personal files, including records of annual leave, training, and absences.
Complaint and Feedback Resolution: Manage and resolve complaints and patient feedback in alignment with Spire's policies.
Financial Management: Ensure effective systems are in place for stock management, financial compliance, and collaboration with the Finance Manager for budget adherence.
Audits and Compliance: Oversee departmental audits and reviews, implementing and completing action plans in response to findings.
Service Development: Collaborate with the Business Development Team to grow the service and meet targets, including attracting new consultants.
External Relations: Foster and maintain strong working relationships with external organisations to standardise and share best practices.
Clinical Governance: Embed clinical governance and risk management into daily practice.
