The Head of Strategy and Business Implementation will play a crucial role in the organisation’s strategic planning and execution. They will be responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to drive the organisations strategic objectives, annual priorities and implement key strategic projects.


The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, CFO and Executive team to align business objectives, identify opportunities, mitigate risks and be exposed to the breadth of work that flows across the entire organisation.


Key responsibilities of the role will include:


Strategy and Business Implementation

  • Monitor progress against BIL’s Strategic Plan via monthly reporting. Produce six-monthly progress reviews, identifying challenges and proactively developing solutions.
  • Facilitate the development (and tracking) of the organisation’s Annual Priorities, taking through the Executive Team and CEO for ultimate approval by Board.
  • Oversee preparation for Monthly Executive Team meetings with a focus on driving forward priorities and ensuring emerging issues are handled efficiently and quickly.
  • Establish and lead a PMO function, implement and evolve a reporting structure aligned to an appropriate review cycle to keep the Executive Team and wider business informed of programme and project progress against scope, budget and schedule.
  • Lead the preparation of Board agendas and oversee the development of Board packs.
  • Train the wider leadership team in best practice project management and implementation.


CEO Support

  • Provide high quality advice and support to the CEO around corporate affairs and the delivery of business priorities.
  • Draft (in discussion with the CEO) and track delivery of the CEO’s annual objectives and KPIs.
  • Project Manage CEO led initiatives, providing the necessary support to the CEO and other executives .


Stakeholder Relationships

  • Develop and track delivery against a Stakeholder Engagement plan to include Shareholders, Leagues, Clubs, Unions, Players, Partners, Fans, Media and Government amongst others.

  • A passion for the British and Irish Lions, their objectives and values as well as a strong understanding of their position within the broader rugby eco-system.
  • Previous experience of working in a business or programme management capacity working directly for a senior leader.
  • Committed to building collaborative working relationships with colleagues and an understanding of the importance of continuous engagement with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to manage complex, multiple projects or workstreams concurrently.
  • Committed, loyal and highly trustworthy. Someone that acts with integrity, good judgement and sensitivity in high pressure situations.
  • Proven skills in stakeholder management.
  • Strong influencing skills and high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent team ethic: able to effectively communicate, motivate and engage with widely differing individuals.
  • Ability to train and lead others in best practice project management processes.
  • Qualified to at least degree level or equivalent, potentially with an MBA.
