Job Description:

This full-time post provides technical and practical support to IT, Drama, Music, and Media departments, focusing on all aspects of audio-visual provision for academic studies and performance productions. The position is based within the IT department and reports to the Head of IT Strategy and Curriculum.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and updating technical equipment to ensure the efficient delivery of their duties. They will serve as the recording engineer for student coursework, technical manager for school drama and music performances, and assist with the set-up of audio-visual equipment for presentations, events, and lessons as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, rig, operate, strike, and store theatre equipment. Maintain and upgrade equipment as required.
  • Manage the performing arts centre, overseeing the technical aspects of live performances (lighting, sound, image projection, etc.).
  • Coordinate and assist with general performance preparations and stage management.
  • Supervise, train, and encourage students to assist with the technical aspects of lessons, productions, and performances, including extracurricular activities.
  • Transfer, edit, and back up recorded data between different media formats, including remastering old audio and video recordings and archiving.
  • Test AV and printing equipment across the site.
  • Assist and train teachers in using AV equipment for presentations and lessons.
  • Evaluate technical problems, research, and present potential solutions.
  • Take on specific technical teaching and training roles within drama and music lessons, particularly for students studying music technology and technical lighting/sound in drama.
  • Organise and manage the box office for events.
  • Work without constant supervision; be self-motivated and capable of prioritising tasks.

Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, “can do” attitude.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Experience with technical work in theatre, entertainment, or educational environments.
  • Experience in rigging and operating sound and lighting equipment.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and upgrading technical equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to assist staff, students, and parents in a customer-oriented and professional manner.
  • Ability to teach and coach others (both teachers and students) in the use of AV equipment.
  • Experience in production management is advantageous.
