We are looking to recruit multiple experienced Policy Advisors at different levels/grades, on a 4-6 month basis, working for a high profile Central Government department.


Working on a top priority new government bill, this is an exciting time to join the department where you will have the opportunity to be involved a significant amount of policy development, engagement with businesses and unions, and programme management. The work is fast paced and high profile but, most importantly, has a significant tangible real-world impact on the lives of the working people.


To accommodate this new priority the department is looking to expand significantly, and therefore requires interim support whilst they build this up. The Directorate is inclusive, friendly, collaborative, supportive and embraces genuinely flexible working.


Key responsibilities:


  • Develop policy, manage consultations and stakeholder correspondence.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and logistics for the right to switch off policy.
  • Support policy development on whistleblowing protections, including correspondence and Bill handling.
  • Develop policy and deliver legislation on bereavement leave, manage stakeholder engagement and correspondence.
  • Support policy development and legislation for pregnancy/maternity dismissal ban and bereaved partners paternity leave.
  • Provide policy support on fire and rehire and collective redundancy measures, including correspondence and Bill materials.
  • Strategic Policy and engagement - coordinate external engagement, supporting Ministerial and No 10 priorities.
  • Support the move to a single status of worker, differentiating between workers and the self-employed, and manage discrete policy areas.
  • Support the UK’s employment rights objectives in multilateral and bilateral contexts, including preparations for labour implementation sub-committees and trade negotiations.


Essential Criteria:


  • Great Problem-Solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity within a developing programme
  • Experience of working in a Policy Advisor capacity is vital
