Investigator London Hybrid £17/hour

Your new role
You'll have responsibility for investigating, and reporting on, regulatory concerns raised about nurses and midwives. In your role, you will gather and analyse information in order to assess whether a nurse or midwife is safe to practise and if they pose any risk to patients in their care. You will have an important role in helping the NMC ensure it fulfils its statutory obligation to protect the public

Key Accountabilities

  • Effective management of a mix and varied caseload of fitness to practise investigations
  • Completion of investigations in a timely and outcome focused manner, meeting relevant quality standards.
  • Providing people centred, empathetic and helpful customer service to all stakeholders you communicate with.
  • Prompt assessment of complex and voluminous materials to analyse risk effectively.
  • Fitness to practise directorate
Standard Responsibilities:
  • Comply at all times with the requirements of health and safety regulations to ensure their own wellbeing and that of their colleagues.
  • Promote and comply with NMC policies, including diversity and equality both in the delivery of services and treatment of others.
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Comply with NMC protocols on the appropriate use of telephone, email and internet facilities.
  • Comply with the principles of risk management in relation to individual and corporate responsibilities.
  • Comply with NMC policies and procedures as compiled on the organisation's intranet.
What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience of managing a case holding and competing priorities.
  • Highly-motivated, enthusiastic, self-starter who is able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to problem-solve, forward plan and forecast.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, confidence and professionalism.
  • Patience and resilience in dealing and responding with pressured, unpredictable and changeable circumstances.
  • To be able to demonstrate empathy and have good active listening skills.
  • Well-developed analytical skills, the ability to identify and understand complex concepts quickly. The ability to understand the relevance and importance of key documents.
  • Demonstrable ability to plan, prioritise and multitask.
  • Well-developed communication skills, demonstrable in written and verbal English.
  • Excellent drafting and written communications skills, with the ability to accurately reflect and summarise accounts.
  • Able to convey with credibility difficult messages to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Able to work collaboratively, supporting your team and all colleagues you work with.
  • Desirable
  • Experience in a regulatory body or similar organisation
  • Investigative experience, ideally but not necessarily in a regulatory setting.
  • Whilst a knowledge and understanding of professional regulations, preferably in the health sector, is beneficial, it is not essential.
  • Importantly, you'll have a desire to learn and build your knowledge in this area.
  • Proficient in the use of a range of IT programmes.
