Job Title: Exams Officer

Location: Camberwell, London

Employment Type: Permanent. Term-time only (40 weeks)

Salary: £25,642 - £26,982

Start Date: October 2024 or sooner


MLK Education Search are pleased to be supporting this Specialist School in Southwark that supports young girls with various, complex needs in their search for a new Exams Officer.


The setting provides a safe, nurturing environment in which students who have previously experienced difficulties can build their self-esteem, confidence in their learning, and positively re-engage in learning.


As an Examinations Officer you will ultimately be responsible for the organisation and smooth running of internal and external examinations. As such, you will be the primary liaison between school and external examination bodies so familiarity with awarding bodies and the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) will be essential.


You will also liaise with and provide direct administrative support to the SEN, Pastoral, and Safeguarding teams to ensure a streamlined communication and management process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage arrangements for the safe and secure receipt, checking and storing of examination papers and materials
  • Contribute to development and review of examination-related school policies
  • Work with the SENCO to ensure appropriate access arrangements and reasonable adjustments for appropriate pupils
  • Manage registration of candidates for all examinations
  • Work with the finance team to ensure all examination fees are paid, as necessary
  • Recruit, train and manage invigilators as required, ensuring appropriate conduct during examination sessions.
  • Manage the logistics for examination sessions, including timetabling, room booking, resources and staffing
  • Make sure pupils are aware of their personal exam timetables, managing and resolving clashes in accordance with guidance and safeguarding procedures
  • Carry out necessary administrative tasks related to the organisation of examination sessions
  • Support the SENCO to implement access arrangements and reasonable adjustments
  • Manage any unexpected issues or emergencies that arise during an examination session
  • Submit reports to examining bodies, as required


Experience and Qualifications:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and maths
  • Exams Officer training (essential)
  • A minimum of 1-2 year's experience working in an Exams Officers role within a school or other relevant organisation (essential)
  • Working in a school/college or administration environment
  • Managing the administration of examinations
  • Working with confidential and/or sensitive materials
  • Managing other members of staff, such as invigilators
  • Managing time and workload to meet deadlines
  • Using a management information system (MIS) & working with data sets
  • Working with awarding bodies and regulatory organisations, e.g. JCQ (essential)
  • Complying with statutory regulations set by external bodies (essential)
