Our Client is a leading downstream energy business, who are expanding their legal team currently as they go through the transition of decarbonising. They are seeking a skilled and dynamic Senior Legal Counsel with a background in energy trading to join the legal team in London. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in energy trading to advise on a broad range of matters, from negotiating contracts for refined petrochemical products to managing trading disputes and supporting general commercial work. You will provide expert advice on contract interpretation and management and contribute to various projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate contracts related to crude and product trading, including industry-standard agreements and storage agreements.
  • Support energy trading matters, including certificates, allowances, derivatives, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with trading-related processes, procedures, and projects, and contribute to net zero initiatives.
  • Manage and resolve disputes related to trading contracts and provide advice notes.
  • Collaborate with and instruct external counsel as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and manage multiple internal demands.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the legal team.


About You:

You should be a solicitor qualified in England and Wales with around 8-12 years PQE. Ideal candidates will have experience working in the energy sector, either within a leading law firm or a reputable in-house team, with a focus on energy trading. Strong knowledge of English contract law and excellent negotiation and commercial skills are essential. Experience in commodity financing agreements, biofuels, or general commercial legal work would be advantageous.
