Are you a seasoned technologist with a passion for Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation? We are recruiting for a high-profile role to lead AI strategy and innovation across a large, complex public sector environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive technology modernisation and shape the future of public services in the UK.


Location: London, Manchester, or Bristol

Day Rate: £800

Contract: (inside IR35) until 28th March 2025

Work Setup: Hybrid (3 days in the office per week)

Security Clearance: BPSS required


About the Role:

As Principal Technologist (AI Domain), you will work at the forefront of technology strategy, helping public sector organisations adopt and integrate AI to improve services and operations. Leading a team of technologists, you will set a 10-year AI strategy, define best practices, and manage key vendor relationships to ensure the successful implementation of AI technologies across the sector.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting the long-term AI strategy and securing cross-governmental endorsement
  • Developing and promoting AI principles, standards, and best practices
  • Managing relationships with technology vendors and external partners
  • Mentoring a team of technologists and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Representing the organization at industry events and in public forums


What We’re Looking For:

  • Extensive experience in leading digital and data transformation projects
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience
  • Strong background in designing and implementing technology solutions
  • Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
  • Technical certifications in relevant areas such as Architecture, Data, IT Operations, or Software Development
