NRL are currently looking to recruit an Associate Structural Engineer to work for a client of ours working in the nuclear industry on a permanent basis based in Warrington.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage structural engineering projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, regulatory standards, and project timelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Conduct detailed structural analysis and design, including seismic and stress analysis, to ensure robust engineering solutions.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and calculations to uphold accuracy and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to integrate structural engineering solutions within overall project requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and recommendations to clients and senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, codes, and standards pertinent to nuclear structural engineering.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices, methodologies, and processes within the organisation.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with membership in MICE or MIStructE.


The successful Principal Structural Engineer candidate should ideally possess the following:

  • Demonstrable expertise in one or more specialised areas relevant to the engineering discipline, with a proven track record of applying specialist knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance informed by extensive project experience across a portfolio, directing and influencing projects and programs.
  • Leadership capabilities in a key engineering function, responsible for managing resources and expertise.
  • Experience working in the Nuclear Sector, encompassing both new build and decommissioning projects, in roles requiring professional engineering expertise and judgment.
  • Engineering experience demonstrating successful project delivery, with roles influencing professional engineers in defining, implementing, and delivering engineering work packages.
  • Preferably, proficiency in seismic and numerical modelling, including finite element analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide technicians, graduates, and near Chartered members of the design team.
  • Solid understanding of design principles and the ability to apply them effectively.
  • Working knowledge of European and American Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possession of a full UK driving license or an equivalent that permits driving in the UK.
  • Ability to meet the security clearance requirements in the UK.
