Assistant Headteacher SEN

Job Title: Assistant Headteacher (SEN) in Secondary School
Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Collaborate with the headteacher and senior leadership team to shape the school's vision, policies, and strategic direction.
    • Oversee the implementation of SEN policies and practices across the school.
    • Line-manage SEN coordinators and support staff.
  • Student Support and Inclusion:
    • Ensure effective provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
    • Monitor student progress, identify barriers, and implement targeted interventions.
    • Work closely with parents, external agencies, and other stakeholders to support students' holistic development.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Interpret internal and external data to inform decision-making.
    • Provide summary reports to the headteacher, senior leadership team, staff, and governors.
    • Use data to evaluate and plan effective provision for SEN students.
  • Curriculum and Teaching:
    • Collaborate with subject leaders to enhance teaching and learning strategies for SEN students.
    • Advise staff on differentiated methods to support effective learning.
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teaching Status
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience working with SEN students (e.g., in schools, children's centres, or nurseries).
    • Continuous professional development in special education.
  • Qualities:
    • Patience, adaptability, and empathy.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Commitment to promoting inclusivity and enhancing the quality of teaching.
