We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician to join one of our partner schools in the Manchester area. As a key member of the Design Technology department, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality practical lessons and ensuring the smooth operation of the design technology workshops and facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, and maintain equipment, tools, and materials for design technology lessons, ensuring they are safe, functional, and readily available.

  • Assist teaching staff in delivering practical lessons, providing technical advice and guidance to students.

  • Support students in using various machinery and tools safely and effectively.

  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on workshop equipment, identifying and rectifying any faults or issues promptly.

  • Manage stock levels of materials and equipment, ensuring orders are placed in a timely manner to maintain sufficient supplies.

  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations and promoting good practices among students and staff.

  • Assist in the design and development of resources and teaching aids for design technology lessons.

  • Support students during project work, providing guidance on design concepts, materials, and construction techniques.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff to contribute to the development and improvement of the design technology curriculum.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in design technology, sharing knowledge and implementing relevant updates where applicable.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience working in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.

  • Strong practical skills in using design technology tools, machinery, and equipment.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in a workshop environment.

  • Familiarity with design software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools is advantageous.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with students, staff, and parents.

  • A positive attitude, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
