Food and Textiles Technician

Location: Haslemere, Surrey

Salary: Pro Rata Actual Salary £10,407 - £12,051 (Full time equivalent £22,333 - £25,863)

Hours: 19.5 hours per week, term time only, 39 weeks per year

The School is a successful 11-16 mixed comprehensive academy based on a wonderful 25-acre site on the outskirts of Haslemere on the Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire borders. The school attracts students from a wide area including Thursley, Grayshott, Beacon Hill, Chiddingfold, Grayswood, Hindhead, Liphook, Churt, and Farnham, as well as Haslemere itself. They are a growing, over-subscribed and friendly school with a strong and supportive community spirit and inclusive ethos. They have high expectations of all members of their school community.

The Role

They are seeking to appoint someone with the passion and enthusiasm to join their Design Technology team as a Technician for 19.5 hours per week, term time only.

Design Technology (DT) covers several subjects, including food preparation, textiles, resistant materials (woodwork), engineering and design. Ideally, they would like someone to be flexible to work around the key GCSE classes within the school timetable. This can change from year to year but for the rest of this academic year this is:

  • Monday 8.30am 4.00pm
  • Tuesday 8.30am 4.00pm
  • Thursday 8.30am 4.00m

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing materials for practical lessons.
  • Preparing and setting up classroom equipment.
  • Supporting students in lessons under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Ordering supplies and keeping a check on stock.
  • Providing administrative support as necessary.
  • Conducting periodic safety checks on equipment.
  • Cleaning equipment and areas after use.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Good everyday working knowledge or genuine interest in textiles or food (e.g. as a hobby)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use your own initiative
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good time management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines
  • Good quality presentation skills
  • Commitment to own professional development (training will be provide specific to the role)
