?The Role


As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are delighted to be recruiting a Research Officer to join our collaborative, friendly team of 9 social researchers.  Initially this will be offered on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract basis.


The Research Officer will support the delivery of qualitative research and analysis for our growing portfolio of existing client accounts. This a full-time role at 37.5 hours per week. but we are open to flexible work patterns. There will need to be flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the specific project.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the recruitment of research participants
  • Gathering and reviewing documents for evidence reviews
  • Assisting with the development of research tools e.g. surveys and discussion guides
  • Arranging and carrying out interviews,
  • Supporting the delivery of focus groups
  • Supporting transcription processes
  • Supporting the recording and analysis of new business opportunities
  • Data coding and analysis
  • Producing draft sections of reports, presentations and case studies to a high standard, including proofreading
  • Contributing to business development through developing proposals, pitches and our social media posts


Key candidate requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • At least two years’ work-based research or consultancy experience, ideally in social research
  • Excellent social skills and experience of engaging diverse participants in research
  • Experience of supporting delivery across a range of research projects
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including an ability to communicate complex issues and ideas in an accessible and engaging way
  • Excellent planning and time-management skills
  • Critical reading, review and analysis skills, honed through experience of working with a range of qualitative data
  • Pro-active and flexible approach to task delivery
  • Willingness to develop within the role, learn from feedback and work with new tools
  • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills with an ability to contribute effectively and constructively within a team
  • Strong attention to detail and logical approach to information gathering and analysis
  • Capacity to work across multiple projects with different deadlines
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to deliver on time and within budget
  • Good understanding of the public sector and third sectors in Scotland
  • Ability to quickly understand the context and constraints that affect our clients
  • A full driving license and access to a car
  • Based in Scotland for remote working, with willingness to travel for meetings and fieldwork across Scotland, where required.

We provide consultation analysis, evaluations, primary research, surveys, case studies and evidence reviews, using a range of traditional and innovative approaches. Our projects range in size and scale, from big-budget longitudinal studies to small commissions with short deadlines. Current clients include: The Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland, SCVO, Samaritans Scotland, National Trust for Scotland, Children 1st, Citizens Advice Scotland and Fun Palaces.
