Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for science and experience in material/product testing to join our global technology team and support our Technical Centre in Blackburn, Lancashire. You will work alongside a team of engineers/scientists to carry out research, advanced geotechnical performance testing, data analysis and reporting on new and existing products and play a key role in increasing the throughput of performance testing for a wide range of products.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, and other specialists to conduct advanced performance testing of materials and geogrids, analyse data, and generate reports for new and existing products.
  • Independently manage and contribute to development projects, making decisions to progress the work
  • Become an expert in various technical and testing activities, including:
  • Small-scale accelerated trafficking testing
  • Large triaxial cell testing – monotonic and cyclic testing using DIC technology.
  • Creep testing using conventional, TTS, and SIM methods, to assess long-term design performance of new and existing products.
  • Contribute to new product development (NPD)
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards throughout the entire product development and testing process.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and calibration of laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports and presentations for a broad audience.
  • Contribute to the generation, discussion, selection, and implementation of future development projects.
  • Interact with all relevant technical and non-technical areas of the company in an open and cooperative manner, supporting internal and external testing and research and liaise with external institutions and facilities to access specialised resources.
  • To assist the Technical Centre Manager in the execution of his duties and work as a principal member of the global technology team.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Preferred degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering, Geology, or a science-related field.
  • 2-5 years experience in laboratory environments and/or prior experience with product or material testing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A genuine interest in science, with a proactive attitude towards learning and self-development.
  • An enthusiastic, hands-on approach to engineering due to the physical effort required to construct and deconstruct a variety of large-scale civil engineering tests (with on-the-job training provided).
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive and adaptable in an ever-evolving dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal), with the ability to interpret and present data/topics for a broad audience.
