ROLE OVERVIEW //

We are recruiting a Early Careers Development Adviser to work within the Human Resources Department (‘HR’), forming part of the wider Business Services function and based at the firm’s Head Office in London.


This is an exciting opportunity to work across the trainee lifecycle (for both current trainee solicitors and future trainee solicitors). The Early Careers Development Adviser will be essential in supporting and welcoming the new intake of solicitor apprenticeships to the firm and taking an essential role in helping to shape the solicitor apprenticeship programme.


Through initial involvement with trainee solicitor processes, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a detailed insight and understanding of the firm and its structure, before moving their focus to our first intake of solicitor apprentices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm


Trainee Solicitors and Solicitor Apprenticeships:

  • Responsibility for induction, seat allocation, seat rotation and secondment arrangements, as well as other processes relating to future joiners within early careers.
  • Manage and support on Employee Relations cases for current trainees or future joiners, including solicitor apprentices in time (matters relating to, for example, ill-health, personal issues, wellbeing, absence or performance management). This will involve workplace adjustments for incoming trainee solicitors and solicitor apprentices and provide ongoing support where needed, including liaising with medical or neurodiverse experts.
  • Develop solicitor apprenticeship programme including induction, seat allocation, seat rotation and qualification, as well as other processes relating to solicitor apprentices.
  • Act as main point of contact for solicitor apprentices, and manage roll out of programme at the firm.
  • Organise and run events (for those at the firm, or those joining in the future) alongside other Early Careers Development team members.
  • Strong understanding of the route to qualification via the SQE, and up to date knowledge on any regulatory changes from the SRA.
  • Shared responsibility with the team for booking and delivering presentations or briefings, as necessary (e.g. how to complete a training record).
  • Liaise with BPP Law School on future joiners and maintain ongoing relationship.


General:

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including Group Trainee Partners and the Managing Partner.
  • Work collaboratively with Recruitment, Learning and Development, Global Mobility, Health and Safety, Business Development and Events to proactively manage the early careers lifecycle.
  • Co-chair trainee focus groups and provide feedback to Group Trainee Partners where needed.
  • Track review process with support from team through the online learning and performance system).
  • Assist with inbox management.
  • Input into budget process.
  • All other ad hoc tasks as required.


CANDIDATE PROFILE //

Candidates for this position must have:


  • Qualified at graduate level and preferably CIPD qualified or part qualified
  • Experience in the early careers space is ideal
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and excellent administrative skills and experience
  • Good team player with a collaborative approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written, spoken and presentational
  • Excellent attention to detail and good use of grammar
  • A willingness to provide feedback, share information and contribute ideas and suggestions as necessary
  • Ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external clients and the resilience to deal with demanding individuals
  • A confident and proactive individual prepared to take a hands-on approach to managing their workload using their own initiative
  • Active listening skills and demonstrates professionalism in all dealings
  • Able to deal with confidential matters with discretion
  • Comfortable accepting instructions and guidance from different angles and managing several tasks at one time
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task, keep calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines
