About the Role:

We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and adaptable Educational Support Worker to join our team. Working alongside our specialised education team, you will provide tailored support to young people who have been excluded from school due to behavioural challenges or who are unable to attend mainstream education due to special educational needs or disabilities. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive in an environment that supports their unique needs, and we are passionate about making that a reality.


As an Educational Support Worker, you will work one-on-one or in small groups with students, helping to create a positive and engaging learning experience. You’ll be provided with guidance and resources, allowing you to make a meaningful impact in the lives of these young people.


Main Responsibilities: 

  • Delivery of tuition in a named subject/s to young people attending the provision – this may be on a 1-to-1 basis or in small groups, depending on the needs of the young people.
  • Target setting, lesson planning, marking of work, and providing feedback to young people.
  • Production of progress reports on young people under tuition. This may be termly or half-termly depending upon the requirements of the provision.
  • Liaising with management regularly in order to understand the support needs of each young person, including understanding the results of individual risk assessments before starting to work with a new young person.
  • Complete incident reports as required.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns following SCG's Child Protection Policy.
  • Adhere to all other relevant policies and procedures as provided by SCG, including but not limited to; Child Protection, Health & Safety, Lone Working, Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, Equality, Anti-Radicalisation, Anti-Bullying etc.
  • Develop professional relationships with young people, always maintaining appropriate and transparent boundaries.
  • Engage in supervision sessions as requested by the Manager.


Experience / Training / Education?

  • Teaching qualification in a relevant subject – at degree level or equivalent
  • QTS Certification required 
  • Experience in working with young people with complex needs, challenging behaviour and disabilities is desirable 


Skills / Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework and reporting responsibilities e.g. child protection and safeguarding
  • Enhanced DBS (can be obtained via SCG)
