About the role

We're looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to join our Equality, Inclusion and Culture team. The policy work of this team is focused on improving access, experience and outcomes for medical students and doctors in their education, training and working environments.

The successful candidate will have a portfolio that would cover the protected characteristic of disability but also extend to discrete projects on other characteristics/themes including (but not limited to): race, religion and belief, bullying and harassment. They will take forward projects including conducting extensive research, developing policy positions and recommendations, writing briefings, conducting FOIs, consultation responses.

Additionally, the Senior Policy Advisor will provide ongoing case management support providing advice for disabled doctors and medical students, support general equality, diversity and inclusion related media communications and external and internal stakeholder management and event management.

To be successful as a Senior Policy Advisor you'll have:

  • Experience developing open and evidence-based policy in health or health-related issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and how it relates to the workplace
  • Ability to present policy reports (verbal/written) to a variety of audiences
  • Influencing and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with counterparts in stakeholder organisations
  • Personal resilience - needs to 'own' policy reports/proposals and withstand challenges
  • Work effectively with other departments across the association
