We have an opportunity for a Head of Property & Specialty Lines Technical Underwriting to join our London based team. This is a great job for someone with solid experience in Property and knowledge in at least one of the Specialty Lines classes of Renewables, Accident & Health, Political Violence & Terrorism, Contingencies, Marine, Renewables, Construction and Property Investors.

A bit about the job:

Within this role you will focus on setting the Property and Specialty Lines underwriting strategy for our UK GI Commercial business to meet the insurance needs of our customers and drive the required performance in terms of premium and profit. This is a newly created key role reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, Commercial Lines and will be working directly with the Commercial Lines Senior leadership team to deliver the ambitious growth targets for our Commercial Lines business.

Leading a team of around seventeen FTEs, you will deliver inspirational leadership and be a role model demonstrating at all times the attitude and behaviours required to cultivate an inclusive culture.

Additionally, you will:

1. Set the UK GI underwriting strategy for the Property and Specialty Lines classes, across Commercial Lines.
2. Ownership of the underwriting authority delegation to CL underwriters across Property and Specialty Lines classes ensuring these are clearly understood and are fit for purpose.
3. Ensuring the effective operation of control frameworks to ensure underwriters work within their Underwriting authorities.
4. Defining the CL Underwriting Risk Appetite in the context of the CL P&L pertaining to Property and Specialty Lines classes.
5. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of technical underwriting guidance for Property and Specialty Lines classes.
6. In conjunction with the Exposure Management, Pricing and Insights - set pricing strategy and rates for Property and Specialty Lines.
7. Work with the Reinsurance team to place our reinsurance treaties.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

1. First class Property & Specialty Lines underwriting, product & pricing know how.
2. Understanding of risks faced by a Commercial Lines business and the controls to manage and mitigate the risks with a particular emphasis on insured perils.
3. Involvement in projects involving regulation and legislation.
4. Strong Reinsurance experience & understanding of aggregation of risk and capital.
5. High performance People Leadership.
