Utilities Reliability Manager


The role:

This day-based role reports to the Technical Service (TS) Manager. You will be part of a multi-skilled team that is responsible for supporting the Utilities department through consistent professional delivery of effective and efficient fault finding and upskilling to maximize equipment availability and uptime. Responsible for operational improvements that will include PM & Spare parts optimization, improvement of maintenance procedures, and overhaul strategies. Undertake training and carry out new tasks in support of equipment optimization, utilization, performance, and reliability by maintenance reliability measures and recommendations.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Team Management: Lead a team of high-performing engineers, overseeing work schedules, training needs, employee relationships, performance reviews, and motivation initiatives.
  • Maintenance Leadership: Own and lead the maintenance of the utilities department, ensuring adherence to world-class maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive the search for new, improved ways of working while sustaining the implementation of agreed processes and standards.
  • Communication and Coordination: Ensure effective communication and coordination across the utilities and reliability teams, focusing on collaboration and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Conduct root cause analysis and execute process adjustments as needed, supporting the department in resolving operational issues.
  • Project Management: Facilitate major CapEx projects, manage minor projects within the department, and contribute to the implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with UK and corporate standards, including reporting to government organizations and completing site energy invoicing on time.
  • Cost and Efficiency Optimization: Optimize costs across all areas of the department and support continuous improvement and root cause analysis processes.
  • Performance Monitoring: Actively seek feedback, monitor progress against plans, and adopt structured target-setting and performance management processes.
  • Maintenance Tools and Processes: Implement PM and PdM maintenance tools in the utility areas, manage SAP notifications/orders, and develop standards for autonomous teams.


Who we’re looking for:

  • Proven expertise as a qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.
  • Proven leadership experience within a technical services team, preferably in a supervisor or engineering manager role.
  • An aptitude and desire to learn in non-core fields, ideally multi-skilled or a specialist in a certain discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience working safely in a high-speed manufacturing or processing environment within a maintenance department or comparable technical services team.
  • Experience working in a world-class environment with a track record of delivering process improvements.
  • Excellent mechanical/electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and prioritize multiple maintenance requests effectively.
  • Knowledge of high-speed brewing equipment and machinery, batch process control systems, refrigeration systems, steam systems (including steam traps, heat exchangers, and associated controls), and compressed air plants is desirable.
