Illumion (www.illumion.io) revolutionizes how we develop better batteries faster through our groundbreaking Charge Photometry technology. Spun out from the University of Cambridge in 2022, Illumion’s innovative imaging solution offers a rapid, affordable, and lab-based microscopy platform, enabling previously inaccessible real-time visualization of energy storage within batteries with single-particle resolution. By directly addressing the lack of insight and throughput of current testing methods, illumion re-defines material discovery and drives advancements in the development of high-performance battery materials.


Your Role

We are looking to recruit a Software Engineer with experience in full-lifecycle development. You will join an exceptional multi-disciplinary team of scientists and technical developers who are designing a high-tech analytical instrument with the potential to transform the industry. You will work collaboratively, with a continuous desire to develop knowledge and skills and strive for high-quality work, whilst balancing the pragmatism needed to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.


We currently develop, maintain and support two pieces of customer-facing software at the two ends of data processing: one that acquires charge photometry movies and one that analyses and quantifies the recorded data. In this role, you will be exploring new ideas and software solutions a stimulating environment, with the opportunity to shape the future of new software products and establish new modelling practices in the industry.


In this role, you will:

  • Help develop, implement and optimise efficient algorithms capable to process the large datasets we work with in charge photometry
  • Interface the algorithms to the GUI for easy of usability for our users
  • Maintain and support the existing code base
  • Ensure that the product is well tested and documented
  • Work closely with the applications team to define software standards


Requirements

Essential

  • Strong experience in object-oriented programming in Python
  • Practical experience in UI development in Python
  • Highly self-motivated and eager learner
  • Excellent communication and team building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Scientific curiosity


Desirable

  • UI development with tkinter
  • Git version control
