We are currently working in partnership with a Council based in West Midlands, who are recruiting for a Wellbeing Operations Manager on a temporary three to six-month contract.


The position is due to start immediately and the hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £400 a day via an Umbrella company.


The ideal candidate will have a qualification or a good working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation relating to leisure facility management.


Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading the operational management of the Council’s Wellbeing Centres and Hubs, directly managing four members of staff including three Managers and one Team Leader
  • Effectively manage staff, maintaining regular performance discussions and appraisals, supporting the on-going development of all staff
  • Developing an organisational culture focused on achieving excellence in customer service, including managing mechanisms to gather and respond to feedback
  • Ensuring all applicable health and safety national regulations are met and the facilities offer a safe environment for customers, staff and visitors
  • Ensuring site operating procedures, risk assessments and asbestos management plans are continually reviewed and updated
  • Managing the Wellbeing facilities ensuring they are maintained to an acceptable standard, and that the programme of statutory testing and other required inspections are undertaken and actioned as necessary
  • Supporting the delivery of the “Active Programme” in liaison with the Programme Manager
  • Drafting formal decision reports and funding applications, communicating outcomes to the public and MPs / Councilors
  • Ensuring the effective financial management and compliance of the department in respect of HR, Finance, Legal and Procurement activities


Experience required:

  • Operational facility management in the leisure industry
  • Successfully leading and developing staff and teams
  • Effectively managing financial resources including revenue budgets and one-off funding streams


Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Excellent communication skills including writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to tailor communications in different formats
  • Ability to organise workload, delivering tight deadlines and delegating effectively
  • Visible and supportive leadership; empowering, enabling, motivating and developing staff
  • Analyse, interpret and present financial and performance statistics
